Block Parties, Charitable Events and Clubs
The Westhaven annual block parties are unbelievable With the amazing amount of talent in the neighborhood, the entertainment is professional, yet casual. Whether it’s a seafood boil or just plain old hot dogs, it’s always fun. Sampling the diverse dishes provided by neighbors is a highpoint.
During the Holiday Home Tour, residents volunteer to open their professionally holiday-decorated homes for visitors to tour. Luminaries softly light the streets and there are horse-drawn carriage rides, hot drinks at the Firepit, and Christmas music at the Residents Center. The proceeds, like so many Westhaven events, go to a designated charity.
The Annual Race for the Cure includes a 5K Race or Walk, a Silent Auction, and a Concert. All proceeds go toward a cure for cancer. In 2009, Deana Carter, famous for songs such as “Strawberry Wine” performed to a sell-out crowd.
At the annual Courtyard Tours, visitors tour a variety of courtyards to gather ideas to take home. Front porches are another important feature in Westhaven; they are built close to the sidewalks to encourage neighborly chats.
